Amazon has signed a power purchase agreement with Statkraft for the 36 MW Mossy Hill wind farm near Lerwick, Shetland. The eight-turbine project could start generating in 2030, with Amazon paying a guaranteed price and receiving REGO certificates that verify the electricity is renewable. Statkraft says the deal gives the project financial certainty and that power will still enter the grid. Green councillor Alex Armitage called the agreement a corporate takeover of Shetland's renewable resources, comparing it to a game of Monopoly. He argues wind farms like Mossy Hill are extractive and wants community-owned energy instead. Local community councils say they will keep pressing Statkraft on community ownership, though the project already has consent. Statkraft has two more wind farms planned in Yell with grid connections expected in 2032.
