Amazon signs 600 MW offshore wind PPA in Germany, largest single deal in the country

Amazon has signed a 600 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Skyborn Renewables for the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. This is the largest single PPA ever signed in Germany and one of the largest in Europe. The project will add up to 976.5 MW of new offshore wind capacity, using 63 turbines rated at 15 MW each. It is expected to generate enough carbon-free electricity to power over one million German households annually. Construction is set to begin after financial close in summer 2026, with commercial operations expected by the end of 2028. The project represents around 3 billion euros of investment in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and will rely on local supply chains, including monopile foundations from EEW Special Pipe Construction in Rostock. Amazon now has 12 carbon-free energy projects in Germany with a combined capacity over 1.3 GW. The deal supports Germany's target of 30 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030. It also shows how large corporate buyers can provide the long-term revenue certainty needed to move offshore wind projects forward. For Amazon, this is part of its Climate Pledge goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
