Amazon Web Services has signed a power purchase agreement with Statkraft for 36 MW from the Mossy Hill onshore wind farm near Lerwick in Shetland. The project is expected to begin operating in November 2030. Amazon says the output will cover the annual electricity use of more than 57,000 homes. The deal is part of Amazon's UK renewable energy portfolio, which now includes more than 50 projects and over 1 GW of carbon free capacity when fully operational. The company also points to its Moray West offshore wind farm and the Chirmorie Wind Farm in South Ayrshire as part of the same Scottish pipeline. Statkraft says the PPA gives it the certainty to move Mossy Hill forward. For anyone tracking corporate renewable procurement, this is a straightforward example of a hyperscaler using a long term contract to support new generation. The numbers worth watching are the project's actual capacity factor and how quickly the broader portfolio reaches full operation.
