Amazon signs 36 MW Mossy Hill wind farm PPA in Shetland, UK carbon-free portfolio passes 1 GW
aboutamazon.co.ukAmazon has signed a power purchase agreement with Statkraft for 36 MW from the Mossy Hill onshore wind farm near Lerwick, Shetland. The project is expected to start generating in November 2030. Amazon says the deal brings its UK carbon-free energy portfolio to more than 50 projects and over 1 GW of capacity, enough to supply the equivalent of 1.3 million UK households. The PPA is part of a wider Scottish portfolio that includes Moray West offshore wind and the 90 MW Chirmorie onshore wind project. Amazon has been the UK's largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy for five years, according to BloombergNEF. Between 2021 and 2025, the company says it invested over £3 billion in UK low-carbon technologies, with analysis by Frontier Economics estimating up to 34,000 jobs supported. Corporate offtake agreements like this one help developers reach final investment decisions and add new renewable capacity to the grid. The 2030 completion date also highlights how long UK wind projects can take from contract signing to generation.
