Amazon hits halfway mark on 100,000 electric delivery vans by 2030 goal

Amazon says it now has 50,000 electric delivery vans operating globally, reaching 50% of its 2030 target of 100,000 vehicles. The fleet, designed with Rivian, delivered over 2.4 billion packages last year with zero tailpipe emissions. Amazon has also installed tens of thousands of chargers at more than 250 delivery stations in the US alone, building one of the largest private EV charging networks in Europe and the US. The company is using a mix of vehicles depending on geography: electric cargo bikes and e-scooters in dense urban areas, custom vans in Germany, and even Shinkansen bullet trains in Japan for long-distance freight. In India, Amazon surpassed its goal of 10,000 EVs in early 2024 and launched a framework to electrify major freight routes starting in 2027.
