Amazon has launched its carbon credit sourcing service in the UK, making it available to suppliers, enterprise customers, and Climate Pledge signatories. The service helps companies access high-quality carbon neutralization and inset credits, addressing challenges like vetting quality and contracting complexity. Only about 5% of neutralization credits in the voluntary carbon market meet Amazon's quality criteria. Credit types available include those from superpollutant abatement (refrigerant destruction, rice methane), reducing deforestation and restoring forests, and technological carbon removal like Direct Air Capture (DAC). Carbon inset credits from lower carbon fuel production are also offered. Participants must have a net zero target by 2050, cover Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, and report regularly. The service is part of Amazon's Sustainability Exchange resource hub, which provides free access to climate tools.
