Amazon and Constellation sign 20-year PPA to expand Maryland nuclear plant, add 190 MW
sightlineu3o8.comAmazon has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy to support upgrades at the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Maryland. The deal backs over $3 billion in infrastructure work, including renovations and roughly 190 MW of new generating capacity expected online between 2030 and 2032. Amazon will receive 690 MW of power from the plant, which currently generates about 80% of Maryland's clean energy. The agreement also gives Constellation the revenue certainty to relicense the 1,790 MW nuclear plant for another two decades. All electricity will still flow to the PJM grid, and Amazon has a separate retail supply deal to manage its operations across that 13-state market. This is another sign that large corporate buyers are using nuclear PPAs to secure firm, carbon-free power while helping keep existing reactors running.
