Russian diamond miner Alrosa confirmed its operations and diamonds were carbon neutral in 2025, marking the second consecutive year it received international verification. The company reported its mining and production facilities absorbed 126,000 tonnes more CO2 equivalent than they emitted, up from 37,000 tonnes in 2024. The carbon footprint of its diamonds improved 60% to minus 1.18 kg CO2 equivalent per carat across 29.8 million carats produced. Alrosa is replacing petroleum products with natural gas and sourcing 76% of its electricity from renewables. The company also uses kimberlite's natural carbon absorption capacity to offset emissions.
