Almarai signs MoU with Saudi Voluntary Carbon Market to explore carbon credit opportunities
gdnonline.comSaudi dairy giant Almarai has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Company (VCM) to explore participation in the Kingdom's emerging voluntary carbon market. The MoU was announced during the CMF Select Red Sea 2026 event in Riyadh. It allows Almarai to potentially join VCM's platform for trading voluntary carbon credits issued by accredited certification bodies. The move aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and net-zero goals. VCM, backed by the Public Investment Fund and Saudi Tadawul Group, was established in 2022 to build a high-integrity carbon market. It has already facilitated trades of over 15 million tons of carbon credits. Almarai is positioning itself as an early participant, exploring how to generate credits from its own sustainability initiatives.
