Almarai Company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Company (VCM) in Saudi Arabia. The MoU was announced at the CMF Select Red Sea 2026 event in Riyadh. It allows Almarai to explore participation in the Kingdom's voluntary carbon market and potentially join VCM's platform for trading carbon credits issued by accredited bodies. VCM is backed by the Public Investment Fund and Saudi Tadawul Group. It has traded over 15 million tons of carbon credits since its launch in 2022. For Almarai, this is an early move into carbon credit generation linked to its sustainability work, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 and net-zero goals. The MoU is exploratory at this stage. It does not specify which projects Almarai might use to generate credits. Readers should watch for concrete project details and credit methodologies in future announcements.
