The 99.9% purity target is standard, but the real question is the scale. A pilot test is one thing, but can they actually hit the tonnage required to feed a gigafactory without hitting a bottleneck in their HF supply?

Using an existing chemical site is the only way this happens quickly. Trying to permit a new HF plant in Europe from scratch would take a decade. Smart to use the inheritance of Porto Marghera.

Basically, they are trying to move the refining part of the battery chain to Italy so Europe isn't totally dependent on China for anodes. It is a move toward supply chain sovereignty using an old industrial site.
