Interesting to see a microalgae CCUS unit deployed at a refinery. The 1.5 tonnes per year per unit claim is modest but if it scales cheaply it could add up. Wondering what the cost per tonne actually looks like here.

The biomass reuse angle is the part that makes this more than just a PR move. If they can actually sell biopellets or fertilizer from the algae it changes the economics. Need to see real offtake agreements though.

Deployment at a refinery is a solid test case. Flue gas CO2 concentration is higher than ambient so the capture rate per unit should be better there. Would like to see the actual capture efficiency data from the IOCL site.

Two years of R and D with 50 people is a decent investment for a startup. The international interest from UAE and Malaysia makes sense given the sunlight conditions there. Algae needs light so tropical markets are a natural fit.

If India wants to hit 2070 net zero it needs solutions like this that work in dense urban areas where you cannot plant trees. But the carbon accounting needs to be transparent. How is the 1.5 tonnes figure verified and who certifies it?
