Alcoa is investing $65 million to upgrade its Mosjøen smelter in Norway. The project introduces post-consumer recycled aluminum into the casting process and increases production capacity by 75,000 metric tons to meet rising demand for low-carbon materials in the automotive and packaging sectors. The upgrades include a new open-mold foundry casting line and additional melting furnaces. By leveraging Norway's hydroelectric power, Alcoa aims to reduce the embedded carbon of its aluminum products and strengthen its position in the European sustainable materials market.
