Alberta and the Canadian federal government have reached an agreement to raise industrial carbon emission prices to 130 CAD per tonne by 2040. The deal includes a headline price of 100 CAD per tonne by 2027, with the remaining increase hitting by 2035. This agreement aims to stabilize the province's relationship with Ottawa and clear the path for a new bitumen pipeline to the West Coast. The plan distinguishes between the headline price paid to the government and the effective market price for carbon credits.
