Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney have reached a deal on industrial carbon pricing, pushing the target price of 130 dollars per tonne back to 2040. This agreement is a key step toward approving a new pipeline to the West Coast, though progress depends on the execution of Pathways carbon capture projects. Officials are currently evaluating five potential pipeline routes. While a northern route offers faster access to Asian markets, a southern route via Roberts Bank is being considered to avoid political hurdles and maritime tanker bans in British Columbia.
