Alberta and the Canadian federal government have reached a deal to restructure industrial carbon pricing, lowering the 2030 target from 170 to 100 per tonne and setting a 130 per tonne limit by 2035. The agreement also establishes a timeline for west coast pipeline approvals, contingent on carbon capture progress. To provide investor certainty, the two governments will jointly issue 75 million tonnes of carbon contracts for difference. This framework ties infrastructure expansion to decarbonization goals and integrates with a broader plan to double Canada's electricity grid capacity by 2050.
