Air Liquide is investing 20 million euros to expand its partial oxidation unit in Oberhausen, Germany. This investment is tied to a 12 year supply contract with chemicals provider OXEA for synthesis gas and hydrogen. The site already utilizes carbon capture and liquefaction technology installed in 2021. This system has cut CO2 emissions by 50% and provides captured carbon dioxide to the food and beverage industry.

Cutting emissions by 50% is a solid number for a POX unit. I wonder what the actual cost per tonne of CO2 captured is here, especially since they are selling it to the food industry to offset the OpEx.
The 12 year contract provides the bankability needed for this kind of infrastructure. It shows how long term off-take agreements are still the primary driver for industrial decarbonization in Germany.
The investment is 20m for expansion, but they do not specify if this increases the 340,000 tonne capacity or just optimizes the existing flow. Does the expansion require new power interconnection or is it within existing limits?
