Air Liquide invests $160 million in Arizona low-carbon hydrogen plant for chip manufacturing

Air Liquide is investing over $160 million to build a large-scale production facility in Arizona that will supply ultra-high purity gases to a major semiconductor manufacturer. The facility, set to start operations in 2028, will produce ultra-pure low-carbon hydrogen supported by carbon capture technology. Captured carbon dioxide will be liquefied and purified for use in the customer's high-purity gas applications, helping reduce the carbon footprint of hydrogen used in chip production. The project places hydrogen production and carbon capture units directly at the customer's semiconductor facility, aiming to deliver the precision and reliability needed for next-generation chips powering AI infrastructure.
