Air Liquide has started up its first industrial-scale CO2 capture pilot for the cement industry, using its Cryocap FG technology at Holcim's CaptureLab in France. The unit processes up to 3,000 Nm3 per hour of flue gas and includes pre-treatment to handle impurities specific to cement production. Cement is a hard to abate sector because most emissions come from limestone decomposition, not just fuel combustion, so carbon capture is critical for deep cuts. The pilot is modular, meaning it can be moved to other sites after testing. This builds on Air Liquide's decade of experience with Cryocap H2 at Port-Jerome. If the technology proves reliable at scale, it could open a pathway for cement plants to significantly lower their carbon footprint, which matters for both compliance carbon markets and voluntary offsets tied to industrial decarbonization.
