Air Liquide has completed the golden weld connecting its Rozenburg facility to the Porthos CO2 pipeline in the Netherlands. This milestone links the capture, transport, and storage chain for the CCS project. Porthos aims to store around 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year in depleted gas fields under the North Sea, starting as early as 2027. The project brings together Air Liquide, Shell, Air Products, and ExxonMobil as initial customers. The Port of Rotterdam accounts for roughly 15% of Dutch emissions, making this a significant decarbonization effort. The next steps involve commissioning the compressor station and offshore pipeline to the P18-A platform. While the timeline has slipped to 2027, the infrastructure buildout is progressing. The pipeline network could be expanded later to connect more emitters, which would increase the project's impact beyond its initial capacity.
