Air Canada and Airbus Invest $14 Million in Sustainable Aviation Fuel to Decarbonize Aviation
travelindustrytoday.comAir Canada and Airbus have announced a joint investment of nearly $14 million to support the development of a commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) industry in Canada. The Sustainability Co-Investment Platform aims to accelerate domestic SAF production and make renewable fuels more affordable for the Canadian aerospace sector. The companies are working with government partners to establish supportive policies that can scale SAF production and reduce aviation emissions. As part of the initiative, Airbus has signed a five-year agreement under Air Canada's Leave Less Travel Program, purchasing SAF environmental attributes for over 60,000 litres of fuel. This corporate partnership allows businesses to offset emissions from air travel by investing in verified SAF. The move complements Air Canada's fleet modernization with fuel-efficient aircraft like the Airbus A321XLR and the Canada-built A220, supporting the industry's goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
