Ahlstrom signs biomethane deals to cut Italian industrial emissions by 65,000 tonnes CO2e per year

Ahlstrom, a specialty materials company, has signed multiyear biomethane supply agreements with two Italian producers covering seven biomethane plants. The contracts replace a portion of the fossil natural gas used at Ahlstrom's Italian sites with certified renewable biomethane, using existing infrastructure without major modifications. The company says the switch will cut its Scope 1 carbon emissions by about 44 percent across its Italian operations, or roughly 65,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually. The agreements represent one of the largest direct biomethane purchases by an industrial user in Italy. Ahlstrom's Italian sites account for about 13 percent of its global asset base and 9 percent of its workforce. The company frames the deal as a practical step in its industrial energy transition strategy, leveraging existing assets to achieve immediate emissions reductions while maintaining operational reliability.
