Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) has achieved the lowest verified carbon footprint for rebar at its Abu Dhabi plant. The company's Environmental Product Declaration, verified by CARES UK, shows 139 kg CO2e per tonne for scrap-based rebar, far below the industry typical range of 600 to 700 kg. Its Sharjah facility recorded 218 kg CO2e per tonne. Both figures are based on cradle-to-gate production using 100% locally recycled scrap and fully electrified processes. The verified EPDs are publicly available and give developers and contractors a reliable way to compare embodied carbon in construction materials. This milestone builds on AGSI's 2024 carbon-neutral plant status and strengthens the case for low-carbon steel in large infrastructure projects. As embodied carbon reporting becomes more common, verified product-level data will be key to procurement decisions.
