AGSI rebar at KEZAD Abu Dhabi gets verified 139 kg CO2e per tonne carbon footprint
cyprusshippingnews.comArabian Gulf Steel Industries says its rebar produced at KEZAD in Abu Dhabi now has a verified cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of 139 kg CO2e per tonne, based on a CARES UK Environmental Product Declaration. That is well below the 600 to 700 kg per tonne often seen for scrap-based rebar and also below a comparable public EPD figure of 300 kg. The company reported 218 kg CO2e per tonne for its Sharjah operations. AGSI uses 100% locally recycled scrap and an electrified production process. The EPD covers raw material to factory gate, giving construction buyers product-level data instead of generic industry averages. The announcement builds on the company's 2024 carbon-neutral plant milestone under PAS 2060, though that certification relies on offsetting and is separate from the product footprint. Verified EPDs matter for developers and contractors tracking embodied carbon. Anyone comparing products should check that EPDs use the same rules, measurement method, and production boundaries, since differences in those areas can change the numbers more than actual production efficiency.
