AGSI Abu Dhabi rebar hits verified 139 kg CO2e per tonne, lowest among scrap-based rebar EPDs
news.metal.comArabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) has received independent CARES (UK) EPD verification for rebar made at its KEZAD Abu Dhabi plant, showing a cradle-to-gate footprint of 139 kg CO2e per tonne. That compares with roughly 600 to 700 kg for typical scrap-based rebar and around 300 kg for the nearest comparable public EPD. AGSI says it uses 100 percent locally recycled scrap and a fully electrified process, and the new product-level EPD builds on the carbon-neutral plant status it reached under PAS 2060 in 2024. The verified number matters for developers and regulators doing embodied carbon reporting, and it strengthens Abu Dhabi's position in low-carbon materials. The Sharjah works record 218 kg CO2e per tonne. The data gives buyers a concrete benchmark when comparing rebar suppliers, though the comparison set remains small.
