Agoro Carbon Issues First Soil Carbon Credits to Microsoft Under 12-Year Offtake Deal
globalaginvesting.comMicrosoft's first delivery of soil carbon credits from Agoro Carbon is now out. The credits come from cropland and pastureland projects registered under Verra's VM0042 methodology, covering the 2021 and 2022 vintage years. This is the first issuance under a 12-year agreement for 2.6 million removal credits signed in June 2025. Agoro Carbon works with more than 600 farmers and ranchers across 2.5 million acres in 34 states, using cover crops, reduced tillage, and better grazing practices. The company says it has paid out over $30 million in prepayments to help producers cover the cost of changing practices. The verification setup is worth noting: over 110,000 GPS-verified soil samples with a reported 7.06% average margin of error at 90% confidence. Future issuances are expected to shift to VM0042 version 3 and align with ICVCM's Core Carbon Principles.
