AGM Inc. wins 2026 award for solar and battery microgrid at Guyana gold mine, cutting diesel use by 17 million liters per year

AGM Inc., the operator of the Aurora Gold Mine in Guyana, received a 2026 Global Recognition Award for its off-grid solar and battery microgrid. The system provides 46.4 MWp of solar capacity and 84.5 MWh of battery storage, supplying about 46 percent of the mine's energy needs. It displaces roughly 17 million liters of diesel each year and cuts carbon dioxide emissions by more than 46,000 tons annually. The project also reduces sulfur and nitrogen oxide emissions. The solar panels were built on previously disturbed waste dump areas, avoiding additional deforestation. The initiative aligns with Guyana's Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030 and offers a replicable model for remote industrial operations. The award evaluates applicants using the Rasch model, scoring AGM Inc. highly on leadership, innovation, and measurable performance rather than aspirational goals.
