The company estimates its 2025 carbon footprint at 2.4 million tonnes of CO2. Key initiatives include investments in renewable energy projects like photovoltaic plants and wind turbines, which helped cover 65% of its electricity consumption with low-carbon sources in 2025, up from previous years. On recycling, AGC processed about 750,000 tonnes of cullet in 2025, saving roughly 900,000 tonnes of raw materials and avoiding around 500,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The company also highlighted its Volta hybrid pilot furnace, which cut fossil fuel use by 66% and Scope 1+3 CO2 emissions by 71%. Its low-carbon float glass now contains 4.8 kg CO2 eq./m2 for 4mm thickness with over 60% recycled content. These figures give a concrete look at how a major glass manufacturer is tracking against its 2030 and 2050 targets.

AGC hitting 65% low-carbon electricity is decent for a heavy industry player. The 750k tonnes of cullet recycled is the real number to watch though. That directly cuts raw material demand and process emissions.

Agreed on the cullet number. But 2.4 Mt CO2 for one region is still massive. The 30% reduction by 2030 target needs to show year on year progress, not just a single snapshot.

The Volta hybrid furnace numbers are interesting. 66% less fossil fuel and 71% less Scope 1+3 CO2. But what is the electric load like for that thing? If it shifts emissions to the grid, the net benefit depends on where that power comes from.

The low-carbon glass at 4.8 kg CO2 eq/m2 for 4mm is a useful benchmark. But how does that compare to standard float glass? Without a baseline, it is hard to know if this is a 20% improvement or a 50% one.
