The African Development Bank has invested $30 million in equity in the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development, becoming its first institutional shareholder. The deal includes a $70 million credit line aimed at high-impact projects, especially in West Africa's renewable energy sector. EBID expects this to catalyze up to $230 million in total project financing, improve electricity access for over 250,000 households, and cut carbon emissions by about 355,500 tonnes per year. This marks a shift from EBID's previous member-state-only ownership structure and is part of its GRO Strategy 2026-2030 to strengthen financial capacity and governance. The partnership is meant to improve EBID's credit profile and access to competitive funding, supporting transformative projects in energy, infrastructure, and private sector development across the region.
