AES Corp is building the Alamito Company solar-plus-storage facility in Pinal County, Arizona. The project pairs a 200 MW solar array with a 100 MW battery storage system designed to shift solar output into evening peak hours. Salt River Project (SRP) has contracted the output under a long-term power purchase agreement to support its goal of adding over 2,000 MW of new solar resources by the end of the decade. This hybrid configuration allows AES to store excess midday solar production and discharge it later in the day, reducing reliance on natural gas peaker plants.
