Aeromexico and Grupo Bimbo Partner to Boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel Use in Latin America
mexicobusiness.newsAeromexico and Grupo Bimbo have announced a strategic partnership to expand the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for corporate travel across Latin America. The agreement uses internationally recognized SAF allocation and traceability mechanisms to account for emissions reductions. Aeromexico will reduce its Scope 1 emissions from fuel, while Grupo Bimbo will lower Scope 3 emissions linked to employee business travel. Both companies aim for net-zero emissions by 2050. The deal is described as the first of its kind in the region and is intended to encourage investment in Mexico for developing lower-carbon alternative fuels. SAF can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel and requires no modifications to existing aircraft. The partnership highlights growing corporate interest in SAF as a key tool for aviation decarbonization in Latin America.
