Adaptavate raises £4m to scale carbon-negative plasterboard for lower construction emissions
bristol247.comBristol-based Adaptavate has closed a £4m funding round backed by the European Innovation Council and Innovate UK. The company makes plasterboard that stores carbon instead of emitting it, with savings of up to 4kg of CO2 per square metre compared to traditional gypsum boards. The money will support commercial licensing and international manufacturing partnerships. Construction accounts for roughly 37% of global carbon emissions, and gypsum plasterboard is one of the most carbon-intensive materials after cement and steel. Adaptavate's product also addresses condensation and mould. The company has already run pilot projects with Legal & General and Oxygen Asset Management, and recently launched in Singapore. Scaling up manufacturing will determine whether carbon-negative plasterboard can compete on cost and performance in mainstream construction.
