Adani's Kutch Copper plans to double smelting capacity to 1 million tonnes, adds 115 MW renewables
ianslive.inAdani Enterprises subsidiary Kutch Copper plans to double its smelting capacity at Mundra, Gujarat from 0.5 million tonnes per annum to 1 million tonnes. The company's first sustainability report outlines a $1.2 billion investment and a decarbonisation roadmap that includes integrating 115 MW of renewable energy into operations. Kutch Copper also reports using nearly 100% desalinated water with a zero liquid discharge approach and treating 99.8% of sulphur emissions. Copper is a core material for electricity grids, renewable energy installations, and electric vehicles, so expanding domestic refining capacity matters for India's clean energy supply chain. The bigger question is execution: whether the renewable power comes online in step with the expanded smelter, and how the company reports energy intensity and emissions at full capacity.
