Formic acid is a decent entry point for CCU. Used in textiles and agri. The real test is whether the electricity cost and carbon capture cost make the output price competitive with fossil-based production.

Pilot at an Adani site. They have plenty of solar capacity. But formic acid from CO2 and electricity needs cheap power and high utilization. Wonder what the target price per kg is versus conventional formic acid.

This is a CCU play. The carbon accounting matters. If the CO2 is captured from an industrial source that would have emitted it anyway, the net reduction is real. If it's from DAC, different story. Article doesn't specify.

Interesting to see Adani moving into chemicals. They have the solar capacity to run this. But formic acid is a low margin chemical. The economics will depend on how cheap their renewable power is and whether they can sell the green premium.
