Formic acid is a decent hydrogen carrier too. If they can make it cheap enough with captured carbon, it could open up storage applications. But the economics depend on cheap renewable power and carbon capture costs.

The article says powered entirely by renewable electricity. That is a strong claim. If they mean 24/7 matching, that requires either firm renewables or storage. If they mean annual matching, it is less meaningful. Would like to see the PPA structure.

Formic acid as a hydrogen carrier is interesting but the round trip efficiency matters. If they are using renewable electricity to make it, then cracking it back to hydrogen later, you lose a lot. Better to use the formic acid directly where possible.
