Aboitiz Foundation and Archeda Team Up for Satellite-Based Forest Carbon Projects in the Philippines

Aboitiz Foundation has signed an MOU with Japan's Archeda to develop high-integrity forest carbon projects in the Philippines. The partnership will use satellite remote sensing and AI for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV), initially targeting the Japan-Philippines Joint Crediting Mechanism under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The goal is to unlock the country's natural capital and position the Philippines as a credible participant in global carbon markets. The collaboration includes feasibility studies, carbon project design, stakeholder engagement, and innovative financing pathways. By combining Archeda's tech expertise with Aboitiz's local presence, the partners aim to create a model for transparent, compliance-grade forest carbon development that could be replicated in other countries. This move addresses the Philippines' underrepresentation in carbon markets while supporting climate resilience and community livelihoods.
