Aboitiz Foundation and Japanese climate tech firm Archeda have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop forest carbon projects across 40,000 hectares of forests and watersheds in Cebu, Philippines. Archeda will use satellite imagery and AI to map forests, track land-use change, and estimate biomass and carbon stocks in the Central Cebu Protected Landscape. The goal is to generate high-integrity carbon credits under the Japan-Philippines Joint Crediting Mechanism. The partnership focuses on building robust monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, designing baselines and additionality assumptions, and ensuring social and environmental safeguards. Archeda will also help link CarbonPH to international buyers seeking trusted credits. Both organizations aim to create a replicable model for forest carbon development that could serve other countries pursuing credible climate action.
