ABB Report: Industrial Motor Efficiency Gap Costs Billions and Increases Carbon Emissions
theengineer.co.ukA new report from ABB reveals that a small efficiency gap in large industrial motors and generators leads to significant wasted energy and avoidable carbon emissions. Motors rated above 375kW account for over 10 percent of global electricity use, and upgrading to high-efficiency specifications could save up to 150TWh of electricity over 25 years. The study suggests that the barrier to adoption is not a lack of technology, but a procurement gap. By shifting focus from initial capital expenditure to the total cost of ownership, companies can recover the investment in high-efficiency equipment within a few months to three years while reducing millions of tonnes of CO2.
