ABB invests in Gridcog to accelerate microgrid and DER modeling for commercial energy projects
technode.globalABB has made a strategic minority investment in Gridcog, a UK-based startup that provides a digital platform for modeling complex microgrids, distributed energy resources, and energy-as-a-service solutions. The platform helps utilities, independent power producers, and commercial customers design and compare energy projects with clear visibility on both financial performance and carbon impact. Gridcog's software enables rapid scenario modeling across different energy markets and asset types, supporting data-driven net-zero roadmaps. ABB will combine Gridcog's modeling with its own advisory and engineering services to help customers move faster from concept to implementation. The investment is part of ABB Electrification Ventures, which has invested over $110 million in 16 startups since 2021. The partnership targets commercial and industrial customers seeking integrated solutions that deliver both economic and sustainability benefits. Gridcog was originally founded in Australia and now has offices in London, Berlin, Madrid, Perth, and Melbourne.
