Climate Impact X (CIX) has been approved as an eligible custodian for Abaxx Exchange's JREDD+ and CORSIA Phase One carbon futures contracts. This means participants taking delivery under these contracts can now hold, transfer, and retire their credits through CIX's omnibus multi-registry service, which connects to 12 registries including all ICAO-approved CORSIA programmes. The first use of this arrangement happened on July 1, 2026, covering 120 lots of CORSIA Phase One futures, each lot representing 100 tonnes of CO2e verified emissions reductions. This move addresses a key friction in carbon markets: the fragmentation of credit holdings across multiple registries. By linking Abaxx's exchange-traded futures with CIX's custodial platform, participants can manage spot and futures carbon credits in one place instead of juggling multiple service provider accounts. For carbon market participants, this means less operational complexity and a clearer path from futures trading to credit retirement. The partnership signals growing convergence between derivatives and spot environmental markets, which could support deeper liquidity and more efficient price discovery over time.
