Aalborg Portland, a subsidiary of Cementir Holding, signed an agreement with the Danish Energy Agency to receive a carbon capture subsidy for its ACCSION project in Denmark. The subsidy is about EUR117 per tonne of CO2 captured, covering up to 1.25 million tonnes per year from 2030. Total value over 15 years is up to EUR2.2 billion, indexed to inflation. The ACCSION project is expected to be one of Europe's largest onshore carbon capture facilities. It is a key part of Cementir's plan to reach carbon neutrality for Scope 1 emissions at its European cement plants. The project still depends on transport and storage infrastructure being developed successfully. When operational, it could handle nearly half of Denmark's national CCS target of 2.3 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
