A new pilot facility in Sandwich, Kent, is converting non-recyclable waste plastics into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The process uses high-heat chambers to create a synthetic oil, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by up to 75% compared to traditional fossil fuels. This project supports the UK government's SAF mandate, which requires jet fuel demand to be met by sustainable sources at increasing rates through 2040. By utilizing waste plastics that would otherwise be landfilled or incinerated, the facility provides a practical pathway for decarbonizing the aviation industry.
