50 Philippine firms commit to net-zero by 2050 at NZCA conference, carbon markets and nature-based solutions highlighted
sunstar.com.phFifty companies and organizations in the Philippines have pledged to pursue net-zero emissions by 2050, as announced at the Philippine Net Zero Conference 2026 in Pasay City. The Net Zero Carbon Alliance (NZCA), established in 2021 by Energy Development Corp., now counts 50 members, including eight new ones like Philippine Airlines and ICTSI. The conference emphasized voluntary corporate action while the country still lacks a formal national net-zero timeline. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) outlined a path that includes nature-based solutions, carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and bilateral deals with Singapore, Japan, and other countries. The DENR stressed that carbon trading must maintain environmental integrity and protect local communities. The event also introduced the first Net Zero Champions Awards and discussed mandatory sustainability disclosures, carbon-footprint monitoring, and emerging emissions-management technologies.
